Leprechaun Surprise – Shipped!!!

It’s a typical overcast day in SF. No sunlight to enhance my photos and a highly likely chance of rain. The latter is the driving force of why I package my creations as I do.

Foremost, my creations are made of paper. This is not the most durable of substances to the raw elements of weather. Care is given to ensure that all of my creations are packaged to arrive safely, and to later be stored safely in client’s homes.

Here are the specifics of how I am packaging my Leprechaun Surprises.

 The Inner Box

The Leprechaun Surprise is first packaged in a light-weight box that can be used for its permanent storage. Paper straw is place both below and above the paper flowers to gently protect the form. Cheerful shamrock tape is used to secure the box lid closed. A beautiful hand-made green St Patrick’s Day bow also holds the box close and can be slid on and off the box for reuse.

Preparing for the Post

The inner box is then wrapped in a sealed bio-degradable bag to help protect against water damage that may occur during the delivery process. Then it is placed in a sturdy corrugated box for USPS shipping. Labeling is applied and the package is ready to go.

After protection & packaging, the 2 oz creation (size: 3.5″ x 3.5″ x 8″) comes shipped in a box that is 4″ x  6″ x 10″ with a total weight of 1.5 lbs.  (That’s alot of protection!)

Note to Myself

Soo… I got my labeling created. 🙂  It is ‘on brand’ and beautiful. But small small small!!! I use some xmas labels I had on-hand. I’m glad I had them on-hand, because I would have bought the same. But they are too dang small. I need to go back and get bigger label stickers!

BTW –  Avery.com is wonderful. When trying to figure how to get my on-hand Avery label/template to work with y free S Word Started app, I realized I was able to completely bypass MS Word completely to create and save label designs. And then print. AND specify exactly how many individual labels I wanted printed and which ones. Of a sheet of 30 labels, I used the first 3 for my address labels, 4-6 or my ‘brand’ labels, and the 7th for the ‘ship to’ address label. It was beautiful. I reinserted the sheet 3 ties into my printer and never had an alignment issue. I will be using them going forth and again probably for xmas.

But, as I said the labels were small and I did not at all plan for how much space the USPS packing slip would take on the box.  Lessons for next time.
