Flax used to be in a wonderful location. There was easy access from an intersection that the traffic light favored. I could walk there if i felt adventurous, or get there by Muni. They even had parking spaces unlike most commercial locations in SF, and they were even right in front. But alas, like so many SF businesses, they decided to relocate out of the city.
Normally I would be extremely saddened by this inconvenience. But their ‘Everything Must Go’ sale was astronomical. It’s honestly the only reason I was able to start this little business of mine.
Shopping
Flax was one of several art & craft supply stores in SF. It was by far the largest, especially for paper. It had a HUGE collection that made your eyes glaze over just to view. During a book binding class I was always in need of paper, and Flax was my usual stomping ground. So naturally it’s where I first came for materials for my paper floral creations. After 30 mins or so of going through their offerings, the attendant pointed me to their sale section. Rows and rows of stacked paper selling for $1 each. Oh my!
I came back 3 times collecting these papers at $1 each.At the time I felt that I had gone a bit crazy with my purchases.
The Collection
What I ended up with though, was a fantastic collection of elegant and expensive paper for almost nothing. I purchased enough paper in enough colors to hopefully support my creations for hopefully many many months!!
